SNAPBACK Interview

Caught up with Ontario’s own SNAPBACK to talk aboot his experience and influences in the UK, himself and what goes on in Canada’s capital province. Reading through this you can tell he’s one funny mofo, “sweat pant boners,” lolz.

Who are you, where are you from and what do you do?

I’m Phil Shore (SNAPBACK) from Saint Catharines Ontario and i like turtles.

Where are you right now for this interview?

You’ve spent some time in the UK so you can say first hand how the electronic music scene is there. Anything you can tell us?

The Uk Scene is amazing! Parties every weekend, with some serious talent on the bill! With radio support from BBC 1 , global gathering / big chill loads of different festivals. 
There seems to be a broader audience to EDM there. So much has started there, and it just seems to grow year after year. I found that hard drugs weren’t an issue at most parties either. (i hate tweaker e tards)

Definately some good friends , Some real education on what dubstep really came from. Some artists that i’ve seen there has definately effected the way I look at dubstep compared to the usual DEATHKILLWOBBLEBALLZNALL approach.

No doubt the UK’s spectrum of EDM is much broader than Canada’s. Any experiences you had there that you could’t have had here?

Radio. Here in Vancouver, BC for that matter, we don’t have any electronic radio stations, how about Ontario?

I’m pretty sure 89.5 CIUT has an on going show on there roster. i’ve played on the college radio in saint catharines 103.7 ! support your local radio! One online radio you should check out is http://www.bassfaceradio.com  with  hooded smoke (toronto) that dude has some serious worldwide talent every week!

I’ve been skateboarding for the last 15 years.  I met almost all the dudes from Lee Dennis , Brad Hill , Andrew White , Jordan Dwan, at the local parks in the area. I just did there world premiere of BMXFU5 GUY STUFF - Charlie Crumlish (ny) hooked it up . Those dudes get buck!

The first time i heard EDM in a skateboard video was an old RHYTHM skateboards GENESIS-1997. Then muska did the DNB thing. It’s becoming more and more popular to have some dirt wobble in skate parts. I personally think growing up watching skate videos has had a huge influence on my music taste, plus didn’t vancouver have a dnb / hip hop mix tape thing with Mat the Alien in the 2000’s? put on by CIRCA footwear?? that got me stoked.

I’ve check on facebook and found a couple of other dudes going by the name DJ Snapback. They gonna fall by the wayside in your wake?

What can you tell us about BASSFACE! FRIDAYS! ?

BASSFACE FRIDAYS is a night i started at a local club in saint catharines. Basically just wanted to bring the dubstep/BASS side of things to the area. Too many house dj’s. This city needed something different. We are working on spreading wide with bassfaceradio out of toronto. We’ve done promotion for shows with heavy hitters like , ZEDS DEAD , MAT THE ALIEN , BOMBAMAN .. just to name a few….

Speeking of Dubstep I noticed you’ve shared the decks with Bombaman. I’m a huge fanboy of Bombaman, he makes some real gritty shit, love it.

BOMBAMAN is what producers should be producing. He’s not trying to make the top 100 beatport chart. sub bass goodness. check out his new shit on luckybeard records.
